1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Engine Management Upgrade

This one was not your average Porsche, aircooled engine rebuild.  Our client requested a 300hp motor for his 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera.  Yes, that's a big number, especially after we dynoed the 35 year old engine and found she wasn't quite making 200hp in her current state.  However, we are up to the task here at BreitWerks when it comes to Porsche aircooled engines. At first we talked about supercharging the engine.  Then we talked about turbo charging the engine.  Finally, we decided to stay true to the original intention of the Carrera and go with a normally aspirated engine with a lot of bespoke features. This engine was increased in capacity from 3.2L to 3.4L.  We also increased the compression ratio to take advantage of the twin plug capability of the MoTec engine management system that we would be using.  Our cams are a custom grind from Dema on fresh billets that will complement the compression and displacement as well as the special configuration of the cylinder heads.  The heads started out as stock pieces, but once our friends at Xtreme got their hands on them... well they are nowhere near stock anymore. The engine management system is coordinated by an M84 unit from MoTec.  A modified 964 intake sits on top of Jenvey ITB's.  Rothsport did a lot of engineering to make sure the center pull throttle linkage works with seemlessly underneath the entire system.  We can't thank them enough for their guidance and support on this project.   RarlyL8 is building us a custom active exhaust to ensure that we take complete advantage of the increased efficiency of this engine configuration.  With a project like this, so many little custom pieces and wiring harnesses must be fabricated for a gorgeous visual that complements the power of the engine.  As with all of our projects, we made use of as many Porsche parts as possible and when we had to fabricate something we developed it with the highest quality, Motorsport pieces available.  We can't wait to see what the owner will do with this bespoke Carrera!
